Receiving Your #ipartywithjarret Clones and Cuttings: Care & SOP

So, you've got some fresh genetics from The #ipartywithjarret Collection on the way –congrats! Whether you're dealing with unrooted cuttings or rooted clones, giving them the right care from day one is crucial. The following guide will walk you through how to handle unrooted cuttings and rooted clones upon arrival. Let's make sure your new plants settle in and thrive!

Unrooted Cuttings

For unrooted cuttings, speed and care are key. These cuttings need prompt, gentle handling and a good environment to start rooting. Follow these steps to set them up for success:

  • Shipping conditions: Your unrooted cuttings come packed in insulated boxes with disposable ice packs to keep them cool during transit. They’ll arrive nice and chilled.
  • Initial acclimation: Upon arrival, do not expose the cuttings to warm air immediately. Let them gradually warm up inside the box until they reach about 50–60°F (10–15°C). This prevents shock from sudden temperature changes.
  • Rehydration: Once at the proper temperature, carefully remove the cuttings from the box. Place them upright in a clean container with roughly 1 inch of water. This helps them rehydrate after their journey.
  • Fresh cut: If needed, trim each cutting to your preferred height by giving the base a fresh, clean snip. Cutting a little off the bottom of the stem exposes fresh tissue for better water uptake. Use clean scissors or a razor for this step.
  • Treat and plant: Use your preferred cloning stimulant (gel, powder, etc.), nutrients, and growing media as directed by their manufacturers. In other words, apply any cloning hormone or solution you like to use, and prepare the rooting medium (rockwool cubes, coco, etc.) according to instructions.
  • Stick and proceed: Insert the cuttings into your chosen growing media (about an inch deep or enough to stand upright). Make sure they're secure but not crushed. Now stick to your normal cloning procedure from here on out – maintain a humid environment, moderate light, and warmth as you usually would newly stuck clones.

Rooted Clones

Rooted clones have a head start with established roots, but they can be a bit sensitive after shipping. While our clones are hardened off before shipment, you'll want to ease them into their new environment. Here's how to handle your rooted clones when they arrive:

  • Shipping container: Your rooted clones are shipped in Clone Shipper containers, which keep them secure. Open the container carefully to avoid jostling the plant.
  • Ready-to-transplant roots: Each clone comes rooted in a sterilized natural coco plug. This means they’re ready to transplant immediately into your medium of choice (soil, coco, hydro, etc.). You don't have to keep them in the plug for long – they can go straight into their new home as soon as you’re ready.
  • Gradual air introduction: Even though the clones have been exposed to open air (hardened off), it's best to gradually introduce them to your grow room’s atmosphere. We recommend placing the rooted clones in a tray with a humidity dome for the first ~24 hours after arrival. This creates a gentler transition from the enclosed shipping environment to open air.
  • Humidity and temperature: Maintain moderate humidity (~60%) under the dome and keep temperatures around 70–75°F (21–24°C) during this initial acclimation period. This comfort zone helps prevent stress as the clones adjust.
  • Light intensity: Start with low light levels and increase gradually. Aim for about 100–150 PAR (approximately 100–150 μmol/m²/s of light) at first. After a day or two, you can begin to ramp up the light intensity over the next 2–4 days. Sudden intense light can shock new clones, so think of it as giving them a gentle morning sunrise rather than a noon desert sun.
  • Watering: Avoid overwatering these new clones. The coco plugs should stay moist but not soggy. Too much water can drown the young roots or invite disease. Just keep the plug lightly damp – the clone will drink what it needs.
  • Check your clones: Upon unpacking, inspect each clone for any damage from shipping. If you see any yellowing or bent leaves, go ahead and prune those off. Removing any dead or damaged foliage helps the clone direct its energy to new healthy growth. Plus, it's normal for a couple leaves to yellow during transit.
